I’ve Got Something To Say
So many people believe they can enact change by railing against something. As a preacher, I know this temptation all too well. Now believe me, there is balance to this idea. Preaching inspired by the Holy Ghost can and will inspire a preacher to say things that will push the envelope. However, the last part of what I said is everything, inspired by the Holy Ghost.
Is your speech inspired? In 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 Paul declared, “And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” When men have knowledge of a situation, naturally, their first inclination is to talk about it. Yes, let’s get as many people on our side as we can, then we know we will win our cause. We need to be careful of these things. James 3:13 says, “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.” Talking about how bad something is does not change things. You may be able to get someone to side with you out of their emotion but as the Word says in Luke 6:39, “…Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch?” Decisions based on emotions are never good ones. Even good things like giving can be done from the wrong heart or in bondage, thus producing the wrong outcome.
So what hope do we have then? The best advice I was ever given by my pastor is two simple words, “Be led.” It is the duty of every Christian to learn how to follow the Spirit as He leads our spirit. Then and only then can we be sure of the decisions we make. It is our job, to learn how the Holy Ghost leads us. It is the most important decision we can make. Following the Lord is not just fruitful, it is enjoyable. God has given us such a surety if we will listen closely to Him. He always leads us right!
In closing, I want to share one more set of scriptures. 1 John 2:16-17 says, “For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” The pride of life is nothing more than self-confidence. We need to learn to put down our ways because they are a ruse, waiting to deceive us. Give in to God, His Spirit, and His way. It’s a better way of living, both for you and all those around you.
